The Story Behind "Zakhar's Circus"

My son was diagnosed with a disability shortly after birth.  On the day of his final diagnosis, I remember sitting in the specialist's office at Children's Hospital feeling overwhelmed by the list of things that my son wouldn't be able to do like normal kids. That night I came home feeling really sad.  I decided right then and there that we wouldn't focus on what he couldn't do, instead, we would focus on what he could do.  So I wrote "Zakhar's Circus" for him.  Since then, whenever he tells me "I can't," I tell him: "It's like Zakhar's Circus!  Do what you can with what you've got!" Then somehow, someway, he digs down deep and tries his best.  And with God's help...he does the impossible!
